Gifts & KeepsakesGifts

Gifts are a big part of the wedding day celebrations and add an element of fun and excitement to the proceedings!

Tradition is that the couple buys presents for those that have helped in the celebrations. The bride and groom give presents to their parents, bridesmaids, best man and ushers. Usually these gifts consist of a small memento to say thank you for their help in making the day so special and can be anything from a personalised gift reminding them of the day to a present you know they are fond of for example a selection of whiskey for the best man and a pamper pack full of aromatherapy oils for the bridesmaids. All of this depends on your budget.

The most important gifts are those for each other, something you can give each other on the day before or even send to each other on the morning to remind your partner of why you are marrying them and how much you love one another. Retail outlets will be happy to offer advice about what to buy, however remember nobody knows your partner as well as you, so think about what they would really like. However rings are sometimes enough for couples to give as presents to each other.

Gifts and favours for guests are also a big part of the day, and usually a little gift for each guest is placed on the table at the reception. These gifts and favours come in many forms, styles and shapes and many companies specialise in providing these. It is a nice idea to have personalised favours, such as candles or clusters of sugared almonds (bombonieres) which have the names of the happy couple and the date of the wedding, so that they can be kept as a token and a thank you for attending the wedding. Almonds are the traditional ingredient of celebration cooking and are used to symbolise health, wealth, happiness, fertility and long life. However some couples use other confectionery such as mints, chocolates, and sweets.

Other ideas include giving the children at your reception balloons as a fun keepsake to take home, and giving male guests little miniatures of whiskey. For that special gift why not provide a bottle of champagne on each table with a personalised label of your wedding date and names of the happy couple. Some couples also include cameras on tables so guests can take pictures which can be developed, so you can look back on these after the day and see things from a different viewpoint.

As lovely traditional keepsakes, guests can also give the bride horseshoes as a sign of luck on her wedding day. Guests also buy confetti to throw over the couple when leaving the ceremony. It is also nice to keep a copy of the stationary such as invitations, or order of service, as the bride and bridegroom can keep these as a keepsake to remember their special day.

Presents given to the couple are usually money or gifts that will help them start their newly married life together, for example household appliances. Lots of places specialise in gift services, and retail staff will be able to provide you with advice on price guides, how to set up wish lists, and informing guests on how to buy. Specialist wedding services enable guests to visit in store, order over the phone or on the internet.

Weddings-With-Style Tips:

If you have been a couple that has been together for many years and don’t want to have gifts why not choose to ask for financial donations which can be given to the charity of your choice.
