Weddings on a Budget

Once you have decided to get married it is a great idea to open a special wedding savings account and adapt a regular savings scheme where you both save an amount each month

Be realistic in terms of what you can afford, and decide what are the most important things, and economise elsewhere.

Traditionally the bride’s parents pay for:
  • Press announcements
  • Brides wedding clothes
  • Bridesmaids wedding clothes
  • Flowers for church and reception
  • Transport
  • Stationery
  • Reception Catering
  • Cake
  • Photography
  • Videography
Traditionally the Bridegroom pays for:
  • The ceremony fees
  • The men’s attire
  • Bouquets, Buttonholes and Corsages
  • Bride’s engagement and Wedding Ring
  • Bride’s Wedding Gift
  • Gifts for attendants and family
Traditionally the Bride pays for:
  • Bridegroom’s wedding ring
  • Bridegroom’s wedding gift

However, nowadays many couples pay for their own weddings and have financial contributions from friends and family as part of their gifts. So once you have a clear idea of how much you can afford you can determine your budget and then the planning can begin!

Here at Weddings-with-Style we have provided you with 10 top tips to create the day of your dreams on a budget:

  • Consider having a Weekday Wedding as this can be less costly.
  • Ask family and friends for financial gifts rather than presents as this will help towards wedding costs. For example they could pay for the cars, or flowers.
  • Hire all menswear from the same supplier as you may receive group discount.
  • Limit numbers by not automatically inviting children and offspring of friends and family, many couples opt for an adult only wedding.
  • Sprinkle rose petals, glitter, confetti, diamantes and trimming to decorate your reception tables.
  • Choose a good sparkling wine instead of champagne for the toast.
  • After the wedding breakfast it is acceptable for the guests to buy their own drinks.
  • If you don't want a wedding breakfast consider having your wedding later in the day followed by a buffet or summer barbeque.
  • Why not give wedding photographs and DVD's of your day as gifts to family as you may receive a discount for ordering a bulk package.
  • At the Airport tell them you're on your honeymoon and ask for an upgrade.

There are always ways to tailor your budget which means you can get what you want at a cost you can afford.
